Awakening the Entrepreneur Within
Michael E. Gerber
Collins 2008
268p

“A true business opportunity is the one that an entrepreneur invents to grow him or herself. Not to work in, but to work on. That’s the work of an entrepreneur.”

Michael Gerber

Not just another E-Myth book, this one makes it personal. Michael Gerber reveals his inner thoughts on what it really means to be an entrepreneur. His latest book is structured as a play within a play. As Gerber describes his thought process and action plan for creating a business, he simultaneously creates a new business as he is writing the book.

The book is organized into 5 parts:

  1. The Preparation
Defining who we are, and what we love. Entrepreneurs are not born, but are self created. We invent our future (business).

  2. The Dreamer and the Dream
We are first awakened to our dream. Dreams are both personal (the what do I want for myself?) and impersonal (how will my business affect and impact the population at large?).

  3. The Thinker and the Vision
We must take apart our dream and rebuild it as we redefine our vision.

  4. The Storyteller and the Purpose
It is important that we are able to tell our story - not about our past, but about the entrepreneurial future we see for customers, ourselves and our business.

  5. The Leader and the Mission
Here is where our author takes us into his thought process previously outlined in the book to create an actual new company before our eyes. Michael Gerber reveals his questioning of his dream, but also his passion to supersede obstacles that the entrepreneur will inevitably face.

I think it is highly likely that the attentive reader will be re-evaluating the vision of his present business, and will experience a new energy, awakening the entrepreneur within. This is the author’s vision and he does succeed.
