• Pause until you have the audience’s attention
• Start with a bang, not the run of the mill “I am honored to be here…”
• Be brief; remember how you felt when a speaker finished early.
• Use quotes from well known people
• If you must read, learn to keep eye contact, it is a learned skill
• Include a powerful parable
• Practice a “ spontaneous” gesture
• Learn to ask powerful questions to engage your audience.
• Create a powerful closing, don’t let your speech drift away at the end
• Speak like you belong there, never apologize

Even if you are a modern Demosthenes, I would recommend this book just for the fascinating personal stories about Churchill and Eisenhower. The author was there.
