FREE Health Care!

By Teresa Nisivoccia

Newsflash!  Scientists have recently discovered a fitness breakthrough that will reduce cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and obesity by over 80% and the best thing it that it’s FREE!
Wouldn’t it be great to be able to worry less about our health and health care expenses, insurance, and all that goes along with being unhealthy?

The ground shattering ‘breaking’ news is this – take care of yourself by exercising, eating right and not smoking.  There – that’s it.  Time to stop the worry about how high your health insurance plans are going and how the government may have to take care of you.

The Unhealthy U.S.
Let’s start with smoking.  Is there anyone left out there that believes that smoking is not bad for you?  If this is you, crawl out from under your rock and listen. According to the American Heart Association cigarette smoking is the most important preventable cause of premature death in the United States. It accounts for more than 440,000 of the more than 2.4 million annual deaths.  In the last 10 years, it is becoming more and more difficult for a smoker to find a place to puff in public, and because of this, health care costs will decrease.

Hot off the presses!  Another recent discovery sheds light on how to tackle the obesity epidemic in the U.S.  Be proactive!  Exercise and eat right.

Over 40% of adults in the U.S. are considered obese.  Do we care? Obesity is costing the American healthcare system more than $100 million annually. And while there's some overlap, diabetes costs nearly $150 billion, cancer care costs more than $200 billion, and heart disease costs more than $300 billion annually, according to studies by the National Institutes of Health.

The REAL Issue.
Americans are currently in intense debate on how we can all have, or be required to have affordable health care, with little to no change in how we treat our bodies.  Have we really gotten to the point where we take no responsibility for our own health and wish to throw more and more money to a problem that is just getting worse and worse?

None of the health bills currently proposed get at the REAL issue to solve rising health care costs.  There is no incentive for people to actually be healthy.  Sure, insurance companies want to know if you smoke, your BMI (which is inaccurate in many cases) and ‘pre-existing’ conditions – but those things only tell a very small portion of someone’s overall health, and we all know people who don’t tell the whole truth to their insurance companies so they can get the best coverage for the lowest rate.

Who Pays?
There are no winners in our current health care debacle, or in any of the health care options currently being pushed by the US government.  REAL health reform will only happen when we begin to realize that we have to take personal responsibility for our health.  A health care plan that places emphasis on real and measurable criteria such as body fat, exercising heart rates, blood profiles, etc will ultimately bring down obesity levels in the U.S.  Preventative care is the real key to solving our Nation’s Health Care woes.

Want FREE health care?  Take personal responsibility for your health by not smoking, exercising and eating right.
